Monkwood House is located down a private track in Minishant near Ayr
The town of Ayr is a coastal resort in south Ayrshire.
You will find Ayr about 40 miles south west of Glasgow. There is an esplanade along with a sandy beach which is perfect for those bracing walks (and if the summer is clement enough, you can always spend the day playing on the sand!).
The 16th century Ayr Racecourse has plenty of Flat and National Hunt meetings throughout the year; this is also home Scottish Grand National, the Ayrshire Handicap and the Ayr Gold Cup.
Robert Burns, who was Scotland's national bard, was born in Alloway, which is on the edge of Ayr - it's well worth visiting his birthplace and the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum.
There is plenty of choice of restaurants and shops Ayr; and those who like a game of golf aren't likely to be disappointed: Belleisle, Seafield and Dalmilling are three of the public golf courses here.
A short drive to the south finds you at Culzean Castle; set on the cliffs, Culzean Castle is one of Scotland’s most popular visitor attractions. The castle is surrounded by Culzean Country Park, a large estate including woodland, landscaped gardens and rugged coastline - this 18th-century Scottish castle is an excellent day out.
What's that island off the coast, you say? All along the coast of Ayrshire you can see "Ailsa Craig", a large stone island just off the coast.
Should you fancy a few days around Ayr, you might be looking for somewhere to stay - should that be the case, I'd like to recommend "Monkwood House" in the village of Minishant, a short drive from Ayr.
